Jiangsu Centre for Chinese Studies

The Jiangsu Centre (the abbreviated title) is an initiative of Essex County Council (ECC) and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education (JPDE), working in partnership with local partners at the Harlow Education Consortium (HEC) and the Anglo-European School, Ingatestone and in conjunction with Confucius Classrooms, which is a project of the Specialist Schools & Academies Trust (SSAT).

Mission statement: The Jiangsu Centre is dedicated to

• expanding and developing the teaching and learning of Mandarin in Essex schools, businesses and the local community in general;
• achieving a widespread understanding of Chinese culture within Essex; and
• deepening links and partnership between Essex and Jiangsu

Objectives:

• Promote the learning of Mandarin and an appreciation of Chinese culture in Essex schools
• Provide training and networking opportunities for teachers of Chinese
• Work in collaboration with the hosting schools to support the development of the Centre’s activities
• Promote a better understanding of China and Chinese culture among the general public
• Provide services for business organisations and other institutions
